I really appreciated the essay, “Better Living Through Reality TV.” I found it to be an amazing piece of scholarship that will remain relevant. Even though the piece was published in 2008, it had some really amazing insights into how TV channels democracy. I though the analysis of how The Apprentice was a “democracy” show with Donald Trump having the final say on who is fired was an amazing insight into the. celebrity acting as the executive branch. Reality TV allows for random people to become celebrities, and it amplifies current celebrities. There is no doubt that The Apprentice promoted Trump “as a competent businessman” (unfortunately, sigh) that carried over into the election of 2016.
